About

Erling Berg, a Norwegian-born architect and designer, is renowned for his dedication to creating distinctive spaces that thoughtfully explore the intricate relationship between scale, form, light, and the use of authentic materials. His designs reflect a meticulous consideration of context and functionality, characterized by a rigorous, concept-driven approach that emphasizes timeless aesthetics, subtle details, and simplicity within the built environment.

Having spent the majority of his adult life in California, Berg draws inspiration from the horizontal language of mid-century architecture prevalent in the region, as well as from the rich traditions of Norwegian vernacular architecture. He places a strong emphasis on wood as a primary structural, exterior, and interior element. Operating from his studio in Fredrikstad, Norway, Berg continues to craft unique dwellings set in rural landscapes, often harmonizing with nature.

His work has gained international recognition, appearing in books and magazines in over 10 languages. Prior to establishing his own design studio, Berg honed his skills as a designer, architect, and project manager at Mork Ulnes Architects in San Francisco and Oslo from 2015 to 2020. He holds a Master of Architecture from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco (2015) and a Bachelor of Architecture from The Oslo School of Architecture & Design (2012).

Erling Berg is open for business and collaborations worldwide.
